How Gurbani Soul verifies scripture

verification

The single most important promise Gurbani Soul makes is that the scripture it shows is exactly the scripture in the source edition — character for character, never corrected, normalised, or AI-generated. Everything below is how that promise is kept.

ਆਦਿ ਸਚੁ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਚੁ ॥

Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji · Ang 1 · Guru Nanak Dev Ji (M1)

Verbatim by construction

The text is extracted directly from the source edition into a machine-readable corpus. It is then reconciled character for character against the source — an automated proof that the corpus and the source agree exactly, byte for byte. If they ever disagreed, the build would stop. Nothing about the Gurmukhi is “improved” in passing: spacing and spelling are preserved as printed.

The SHA-256 checksum

The corpus is built into a database that ships inside the app. That database has a SHA-256 checksum — a fingerprint that changes if even one character changes. When the app is installed or updated, it checks the bundled database against the expected checksum. If the fingerprint does not match, the app refuses to show the text rather than risk showing it altered.

Cited, and checkable

Every line is presented with its Ang, so you can confirm it against a physical Saroop or any other copy. The Knowledge Base also exposes a verification step that takes a line and a claimed Ang and reports whether the quotation is an exact match in the corpus — the same discipline the Answer Protocol requires of any answer.

None of this depends on a network. The whole chain — corpus, database, checksum, citation — lives on your device, so the text you read is verifiable offline. You can start reading from the reader or look up a line in search.
